Pronunciation toolkit

Welcome!

Why should I use this website?
The purpose of Repeat After Me is to guide your learning process and provide you with a toolkit to practice your pronunciation. Use this website to learn how to learn.

Why study pronunciation?
Correct pronunciation enables you to clearly communicate exactly what you want to say.

Should I try to eliminate my accent?
A foreign accent when speaking English is nothing to be ashamed of! It tells your listeners that you speak at least two languages.

Welcome
Set a goal

You cannot improve your pronunciation by being a passive listener. You have to be active and work for it!

Fortunately, there are many tools that can help you practice. Whether you prefer to do it on your own or socially, there's a tool for you. Make sure you already have a clear goal in mind as that will help guide your tool selection. Choose a tool that will help you reach your goal.

Try to practice your English pronunciation as much as possible. Put practice sessions on your schedule and stick to them! If you can't find enough time on your schedule, be creative! If you are practicing with a mobile app, you can study anywhere and at any time.

To deal with procrastination and lack of motivation, use a time management or a productivity tool.

And Repeat as many times as necessary

Usually, when we study, our teachers evaluate our progress. We take a test and we get a grade.

When you are learning independently, we sometimes forget that we can evaluate ourselves. This is a great way to determine if the strategies or the tools that you are using are working. If they are not, you can find different ones that might work better for you.

Think about your learning process and the steps you have taken to accomplish your goal.

"Improving my pronunciation" is a goal that can generate a lot of anxiety. You might wonder: Where do I even begin? How will I know when I'm done? Should it take me a week, a year, ten years?

But what about "By the end of the week, I will be able to produce the vowel sound /a/ as in ARM, HOT, and WANT."? That's a more reasonable goal! It's specific, it's measurable and it's time bound.

Setting a goal will provide you with a clear purpose to focus your learning efforts. You can begin by choosing one or two sounds that are difficult for you to pronounce. When you have improved, move on to other sounds or vocal features.
